EmotionIt's amazing how we can mentally protect ourselves from, well, ourselves. Sometimes our emotional reactions are obvious, be it rage, sorrow, or, God forbid, joy. Other times, the reaction is so subtle none is even noticed. That is, until one of the “triggers” comes up. A song, picture, location, TV show, as little as a single word could bring those emotions clearly into focus. Maybe you were in a relationship. That ends. Maybe you didn't feel a thing, or maybe a tiny pang of sadness, which quickly passed. But the song you considered to be “your song” when the two of you were together comes on. I am a musician, a bassist, with ranging interests from metal to alternative, Atreyu to Coldplay, Metallica to Against Me! and so on. But I DO NOT like Jonas Brothers kind of "rock" that is disney advertised pop. And I don't like anything just because pop culture says it's good. I don't follow styles, jeans and a t-shirt work for me; whatever the in-crowd says is unimportant. And that's mostly me. |
